Gender Reveal Week

And we're back with some updates!

Yesterday's trip to the doctor yielded us some pretty cool views of Baby's growing limbs. The ultrasound technologist was able to measure both "long bones" (femur, upper arm bones), spine, head, and torso. She was also able to measure the tiny organs-- kidneys, liver, etc. It was pretty cool to see her zoom in on the little heart, and to watch it beating!

Since this was our 20-week appointment, they asked us if we'd like to find out the baby's gender, if they were able to tell. We decided a while ago that we did want to find out-- not only does it seem like a small but meaningful way to help our continentally-divided families to stay connected to what's going on, but Husband says it will take us the next 20 weeks to find a name we both agree on, anyway.  (He's probably not wrong.)  However, we also like the anticipation of not knowing...yet.

I went prepared with a blank note card and envelope, and we asked the tech to keep the secret between her and the card.  Today, we took the card to the party supply store, where they snuck a peek at the card's secret contents and we left with 7 confetti-filled balloons.  Each balloon has either blue or pink confetti inside-- 4:3 blue:pink if it's a boy or 4:3 pink:blue if it's a girl.  Only the balloon-fillers know the contents exactly.

Here we go! Each of the 7 balloons has either pink or blue confetti inside. We'll pop one every day around dinner time (between 6-7pm PST) to determine best out of 7! The fun begins Sat 2/22. Even we don't know!!

How's that for suspense?

Obviously, the balloon colors tell us nothing in themselves-- it isn't until we pop them that we (and anyone else) will know if it's a boy or a girl on the way!  We decided that the best way to prolong the fun is to pop one every night at dinner for the next 7 nights...or perhaps fewer if the odds work out....until we know the result!

We popped the first balloon (that green one 3rd from the right) tonight, and the confetti was pink!  Keep following us on facebook for daily updates on the pink/blue tally.  :)

Baby Blogging

To say it's been a while since my last post would be an understatement. We've been busy-- I've got a new job, we moved, and we're expecting our first baby in just a few months. Hard to believe, but I'll be to the halfway mark in less than 2 weeks!

That's the reason for the return to the blog-- with so much of our family living far from us, I thought it would be a good idea to keep you posted on things!

A few stats for the week: baby gender is still unknown until Friday. Baby weighs about 1/2 lb, and roughly measures the length and weight of a mango. (Which is funny because just last week I discovered a taste for fresh mango that I don't remember having before.) The doctor says I've gained exactly the amount of weight he wanted to see. That was good to hear, since I feel like people keep commenting on how big the belly looks, and asking if I'm sure it's not twins...it's not-- we've got the ultrasound pics that say otherwise. :)

In general, I'm feeling pretty healthy. Getting up for school in the mornings has been getting harder, but I think that might have had more to do with normal February "blah"s, especially since we've had rainy and cold weather for the last couple of weeks. I'm definitely looking forward to spring and warmer weather so we can walk and be outside a bit more comfortably, but all in all, time really just feels like it's flying by.

That's all for now! Love, k
